Graz police have arrested two 14-year-old boys who are said to be responsible for several robberies against young people in recent weeks. A series of brutal attacks by young offenders had sparked concern in the capital. Other suspects were identified.
They struck in the middle of Graz in broad daylight and apparently chose their victims at random: both the perpetrators and the victims were very young, between twelve and fourteen years old. The victims were threatened, beaten and some threatened with knives. The perpetrators were after money and valuables such as e-scooters or headphones.
Intensive investigations
After intensive investigations, the Graz police have now identified and arrested two 14-year-olds as the main perpetrators. It concerns a Chechen (14) who is already known to the police and lives in Graz, as well as a Grazer of the same age. They are suspected of having committed at least four of these robberies between October 23 and November 6.
Escape attempt quickly thwarted
They were assisted by other, even younger and therefore underage accomplices, each in a different composition. Criminals arrested the two 14-year-olds on behalf of the public prosecutor’s office in Graz. One of the youths tried to flee from the police. However, troops from the Rapid Intervention Group (SIG) prevented the boy from doing so.
The police seized the loot and the knife used in robberies from the 14-year-olds. A number of the boys confessed, but could not give a conclusive motive, according to the police.
