Despite the pain, Sabine P. from Salzburg goes to work. A life without financial worries is still not possible for her and her family. The Salzburg resident receives help thanks to her donations for the relief campaign “Ein FunkenWärme” of “Krone” and Caritas.
After two years of looking for a job, Mrs. P., who had worked for 20 years before, found another job. The 54-year-old lives with her husband, who also works, and their daughter in Salzburg. The eldest son has already left. However, the family cannot manage on their income.
There is little left to live on
After deducting the fixed costs, only 300 euros remain per month. “My husband and I can no longer work all day due to illness or operations. We are in pain, but we need the money,” said the 54-year-old.
Living and shopping are becoming increasingly expensive
The P. family only moved six months ago and since then the rent has been increased twice. “My wages only go towards the rent.” Sabine P. not only thinks that everything is becoming more expensive when it comes to living, but also when it comes to shopping. “You notice it every day when you come home with a small bag that you paid as much as you used to for a large one.”
Due to inflation: the family could only pay half of the rent
The son also tries to support where he can. A situation that bothers Mrs P., who has suffered from depression since childhood. “My children don’t have to work for me.” Due to rising prices, the family was recently only able to pay half of the rent because they simply do not have enough money.
Social support by Caritas could help
Finally, the woman from Salzburg turned to the social counseling service of Caritas. She now helps the family with receipts for groceries and the electricity bill. “We are very grateful for that,” says Mrs. P., who is still afraid of winter. “I’m afraid we’re going to sit in a cold apartment and also have to take a cold shower.”
To show people like the P. family that they are not alone and that we stick together in difficult times, we would like to ask you, dear readers, to support our relief effort – if you can. Every penny helps, your donation is tax deductible. Thank you!
