In Vienna, several speeders were caught by the police this weekend. At around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, two young drivers from out of town would battle each other on the Donauuferautobahn (A22). They were each measured at 137 instead of the permitted 80 km/h. On Sunday evening in Vienna-Penzing, two drivers were flashed in a 30 zone at 104 km/h and 97 km/h.
The 19 and 26-year-olds were measured by a subsequent patrol on the A22 by the Rijksverkeersdienst on Saturday. Both are threatened with a driver’s license withdrawal procedure, the 19-year-old still has a probationary driver’s license, it said.
On Sunday night, two other speeders were then flashed by a radar-measuring vehicle as part of a focus action – they were driving three times the speed limit. These drivers are also threatened with having their driver’s license revoked.

Inappropriate speed is one of the main causes of fatal road accidents, warned the Vienna State Police Directorate. The speed controls would therefore make an important contribution to the safety of all road users. In the first three quarters of this year, the Viennese police reported 454,996 reports and issued 22,470 organ orders for speeding offenses, according to the broadcast.
