Burned comrades – Russians allegedly dumped the dead in a landfill

Date:

Before the Ukrainian city of Kherson was liberated from Russian occupation, residents of the city made shocking observations. Russian soldiers had taken black bags to the dump several times, some of which were burned there. A garbage truck driver reported that there was a smell of rotting and burnt flesh. The suspicion: the troops have simply taken their fallen comrades there.

As the British “Guardian” reported, the dump on the outskirts of the city was closed off by the invading troops during the summer – and that would have been for a horrific reason. The place is said to have been used by the Russians to get rid of their fallen comrades and then burn them.

Witnesses noted “an awful stench of burnt flesh”.
Residents watched as Russian trucks, loaded with black bags on the open deck, arrived at the site. When these were lit, a great cloud of smoke formed, giving off “an awful stench of burnt flesh”. Witnesses suspect that Russian soldiers who fell in this way were cremated.

“Every time our army fired at the Russians there, they took the remains to the dump and burned them,” said a resident named Iryna. A garbage truck driver who wished to remain anonymous is also certain: “They threw them out and threw the garbage over them and that was it.” Whether soldiers or civilians were in the pockets, he couldn’t say, “I don’t know.” I didn’t see it,” he admits, adding, “But the less you know, the better you sleep.”

Russians set up checkpoint for landfill
Another garbage truck driver reported that a Russian checkpoint had been set up at the entrance to the dump: “We weren’t allowed to go near the area of the dump where they burned the bodies.” Husband and I at the wrong time. We came here doing their ‘business’ and they hit my husband hard in the face with a bat.”

The remote place where the secret cremations are said to have taken place could not be visited by the paper’s reporters. A truck driver who works at the dump does not rule out that the Russians have mined the area or left duds behind.

Ukraine has no interest in ‘enemy graves’
Apparently the Ukrainian authorities are not concerned about what happened at the dump during the occupation. “We are not interested in enemy graves. What interests us is finding the bodies of Ukrainians who have been tortured, murdered and buried in mass graves here in the Kherson region,” a local official told The Guardian.
