Due to the tense situation in the Russian border region of Belgorod, the construction of large fortifications has started. Fears of a possible Ukrainian attack are growing. According to Russian sources, three people were killed in explosions near the Ukrainian border on Tuesday.
In the town of Schebekino, about seven kilometers from the border, a woman was killed by Ukrainian shelling, local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said Tuesday in the Telegram online service. She suffered a head wound from the shelling and died in the ambulance. According to Gladkov, a couple was also killed by the explosion of “unidentified ammunition” in the border town of Staroselje in the west of the region. A state of emergency was declared in the city at the end of October. According to Gladkow, the investigative authorities are investigating the matter.
Shooting again and again
The Belgorod region of Russia has been repeatedly shelled in recent months. In October, Russian President Vladimir Putin placed the region in a zone of heightened security measures.
Gladkov told Russia’s state news agency Tass on Monday that authorities in Belgorod had been “actively strengthening the borders” since April. He posted images to Telegram showing the construction of a “security line” at the border that resembles a ditch.
