Road work on a regular basis seems like a necessary evil while driving. Necessary repairs are essential to keep our road network running, but sometimes being in traffic can ruin your day.
It can get even worse when you get into traffic because you weren’t aware of the roadworks planned for your route. Fortunately, Highways England has announced all roadworks planned to be carried out on its network by April 2022.
And to make life easier, we have created a map for each of the works planned to avoid traffic jams. Most roadworks will likely cause only minor delays to drivers, which means maintenance work will add less than 10 minutes to your journey.
But many others will lead to further delays. British Highway warned that many roadworks would result in moderate delays of 10-30 minutes.
The worst delays are classified as “extreme” and will result in a delay of more than half an hour due to the workload. There are 10 such projects that will cause severe delays in April.
Use the map below to see the road works in your area. The green dots are functions that cause slight delays, the blue dots cause moderate delays, and the nine red dots are functions that cause severe delays. Click each to see the exact working time.
There are 10 road works causing severe delays:
- A 14 East: Junction 43 Junction 44 – Road closures, lane closures and bypass to motorway – Reconstruction/development of motorways on behalf of England.

Exit A14 at Intersection 56 East and West: Lane and underpass closure works for intersection improvement works on behalf of the client.

A404 south to Marlow Besham: Block the way for surface restoration work. Scroll through national highways and the local government network.

A404 North from Burchett’s Green to Marlowe: Block the way to rearrange. Transfers via national highways and the local government network.

M42 North and South: Node 10 to 11 lock closure and track for surface repair and drainage work.

A 14 East and West: Junction 38 to Junction 43 – Road closure for restoration work on behalf of England.

A52 East and West: The Gamston Boardwalk and Trail are closed to the landscape.

M4 East: Block intersections 17 and 16 to be re-paved. Forwarding via A350, A4 and A3102.

A46 Sherburn Bypass and M40: At the junction there are 15 detours into the A452 Kenilworth Junction and associated roads to the north and south. Road closures for roof repair work.

A1 North and South: Passing through Wansford to Old Great North Road, Stibington. Barrier closure for security overhaul of barriers/fences for the Mott MacDonald Corporation.
