Fire alarm Wednesday afternoon in the East Tyrolean ski area Sillian Hochpustertal: A fire broke out at a pumping station, probably due to a technical defect, and there was a lot of smoke. Due to the remote location, the fire brigade had to arrive first with gondolas and then with snowplows.
Just before 4 p.m., the employees of the mountain railways set off an SMS notification of an error message at a pumping station. When the employees checked things out, they found that the whole building was full of smoke and that there had also been a power failure.
Remote location as a challenge
The Sillian fire brigade was then alerted via the Tyrol control room. “Due to the situation, this together with the extinguishing agents first had to be taken to the mountain station by gondola and from there to the site with snow shovels,” the police said. Meanwhile, the Bergbahn employees were able to shut off the electricity, after which the smoke subsided.
The fire brigade, which had arrived in the meantime, only had to ventilate the building with heavy respiratory protection. “According to the previous investigations, the fire was probably caused by a technical defect,” said the police detectives. In any case, there are no indications of third-party debt.
More than 30 Florianis in action
Fortunately no one was injured. The extent of the damage caused cannot yet be quantified. Several employees of the mountain railways, the Sillian fire brigade with 32 members and four vehicles and a police patrol were present.
