In addition to the workers in the religious hospitals, who have already held their first warning strike, the nursing staff in the prison are also demanding more staff and salaries. They earn significantly less than their colleagues in the hospitals.
Josefstadt Prison in Vienna holds about 1100 prisoners, 110 are cared for in five infirmaries. The number of patients requiring intensive (psychiatric) care has increased enormously in recent years. But not the staff.
“Often there are a total of 60 patients per shift for one nurse,” says an employee. And not all of them have the additional psychiatric training that treatment patients need.
Hundreds of euros less
“We have had too few staff for years. New ones always start, but they give up after a short time,” they say. No wonder: because in addition to the clientele and the environment that take some getting used to, it is the salary that makes the nursing despair drives.
They receive several hundred euros less per month than their colleagues in the hospitals. Nothing was received from the Corona bonus either. Conclusion: “We want to work here, but you have to be able to afford life.”
Surcharges are gone
According to the Ministry of Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens), the salary is based on that of the Vienna Health Association. However, numerous fees would be abolished. unfair!
