Daughter raped – “Absolute terror reigned in this family”

Date:

Even the defense lawyers found only words of concern about what happened in the family of a Syrian who fled to Vienna. He received a severe sentence from the Vienna Regional Court. The verdict for the mother came as a surprise to many.

Dismay was written on the faces of the Senate and lawyers when the public was allowed back into room 212 of the Vienna court after the interrogation of a 13-year-old girl was played. In which the child described how his own father had abused him at night for months.

“It was absolute terror that happened in this family. Because the man had seriously abused the family and had also beaten and strangled his wife,” said lawyer Andreas Reichenbach in the closing argument – he represented the second suspect, the wife of the violent and sex offender.

“As a mother, she should have intervened as soon as she knew,” said the prosecutor. More than two months passed between the day the daughter confided in her mother and the day she went to the child welfare office – which is why she was charged as an accomplice.

“She feared for her life and that of her children,” the lawyer argued on the second day of the trial. Werner Wendt, the defendant’s lawyer, also had to admit: “The longer we talk about it, the worse the tragedy is revealed to us here.” In the end, the mother was acquitted when in doubt. The father was sentenced to nine years in prison (the maximum sentence was ten years). Not legally binding.
