Brexit promise – London will deport migrants to Rwanda in mid-June

Date:

The first controversial deportation flights of refugees from Britain to Rwanda are scheduled for June 14. The Home Office in London on Tuesday announced that it had sent notifications to the first migrants who had entered the country illegally. It is the “last administrative step” for an agreement with Rwanda to come into effect.

The agreement provides that people who have arrived illegally in Britain can be flown to the East African country and apply for asylum there. The Conservative government wants to deter refugees and deliver on a Brexit promise.

English Channel crossings are increasing
Recently, the number of people crossing the Channel in boats that are barely seaworthy has increased significantly. Interior Minister Priti Patel in particular was under great pressure as a result. Human rights activists accuse Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government of violating asylum in the Rwanda deal.

“Our industry-leading partnership with Rwanda is an important part of our strategy to overhaul the broken asylum system and disrupt the business model of malicious smugglers,” said Patel. While there will be attempts to delay the trials and deportations, don’t let this deter her, emphasized the hardliner, whose family had once arrived in Britain as refugees.
