About 30 number plate removals and endless traffic jams on Lake Wörther and Lake Faaker – this year’s unofficial GTI meeting is stronger than ever. Because the GTI drivers have also been accompanied by the sports car drivers – especially in Velden you could see everything from Ferrari to Lamborghini. The huge police presence prevented frenzy and rubber-rubber goggles, but it retreated at Arneitz am Faaker See during the day and through Velden am Wörthersee at night.
Velden continued on Saturday into the night. There was a backup from all sides and it was even difficult to get a standing place on the Casinoplein. The center of Velden had to be closed between 22:00 and 13:30 on the orders of the authorities.
In some places, especially in Velden, a dozen Porsches, numerous Ferraris and Lamborghinis drove out with their roaring engines.
Again and again vehicles without number plates
The parking lot of Arneitz on the Faaker See was also full. There was also a traffic jam on the access road to the Arneitz site via Egg. There have already been about 30 license plate checks, the hotspot for the checks was the construction site parking lot in Schiefling, but there were also a few unregistered vehicles on the Pyramidenkogel and in the center of Rosegg.
The rubber-rubber spectacle that polluted the air was largely absent, only traces of it could be seen on the road in the upper area of the Pyramidenkogel.
When you race you risk your car
According to the police, there were few complaints from local residents about noise pollution, and the deliberately caused misfires had decreased. So far, there have been three reports of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, two of which involved withdrawal of driver’s license. The amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act came into effect on Saturday, just in time for the start of the meeting. It will enable the police to act more consistently against hooligans on the street in the future.
Participants transfer to Slovenia and Italy
For the first time, it can be noted that car and tuning fans are moving to Slovenia and Italy for meetings at short notice.
