If your own daughter asks for money via a message on your parents’ mobile phone, caution is advised. Two Styrian women fell for the trick.
A well-known scam is currently being used again: criminals send messages via SMS or courier services such as WhatsApp in which they pose as the victim’s daughter and say that they have a new mobile number.
In the course of the further conversation, money is always asked to help the presumed daughter out of a financial emergency for a short time. If you then make a transfer, you will never see your money again.
Thousands of euros have disappeared
Two Styrian women (57 and 61) fell for the scam and each transferred several thousand euros to German accounts. The police now urgently warns against such scams and advises to always be skeptical about such messages.
“Check with the real acquaintance if this is true,” is the official advice of the police, who also advise not to respond to such messages and to delete them immediately.
