Police officer injured – shots fired in St. Pölten: vehicle secured

After a police officer was shot early Friday evening during a traffic check in St. Pölten, the car whose driver was to be arrested was secured on Saturday night. The silver car with stolen Czech license plates was parked in the mansion’s garage. There is still no trace of the driver.

An officer sustained a gunshot wound to the lower left leg during the official act. He was taken to St. Pölten University Hospital, which he was allowed to leave after outpatient treatment.

According to the executive, a patrol from the police command of the city of St. Pölten attempted to stop a car traveling on Wiener Strasse towards Statersdorfer Strasse around 5 p.m. on Friday. As a result, another patrol wanted to stop the car just before the intersection with Stattersdorfer Straße. According to police, the driver of the car drove straight towards a man in uniform. “The officer fired several shots at the vehicle,” the agency said. The driver of the car fled.

A large contingent was used in the ensuing manhunt. The air traffic police, rapid intervention group (SIG) and service dogs were involved. The criminal investigation department of the state of Lower Austria is investigating the case. In the course of the investigation, it must become clear, among other things, how the officer was shot. The seized car has been taken for forensic examination.
