Exception in Upper Austria – the mini-train cannot be stopped by the strike

Date:

On the Monday of the strike, the train rolled 13.4 kilometers in Upper Austria. Because this mini train is exempt from the work stoppage. The union explains why. State politicians are angry about the escalation being carried out on the backs of the passengers.

The whole of Upper Austria has no train connection today. All of Upper Austria? No! According to the trade union and operator Stern&Hafferl, a “mini link” in Attergau is on schedule. The 13.4 km long Attergaubahn between Vöcklamarkt and Attersee, which has twelve stops. “This railway line is not included in the transport contracts and does not receive public money,” says the vida union, explaining why this “Gaul railway” defied the strike call. The operator Stern&Hafferl says: “It was decided within the union.”

Otherwise, nothing works today on the other 17 railway lines in Upper Austria, which serve 298 other stops. No rail replacement service has been set up, deterring rail passengers from using the transport association’s bus connections, which are not affected by the strike, and from switching to private cars or using home offices. The traffic chaos in the morning and evening rush hour seems inevitable.

“We are aware that the warning strike has consequences for the mobility of commuters, students and all our valued customers,” said Helmut Woisetschläger, vida’s state president for Upper Austria, asking for understanding for the “drastic measure” .

‘Unfortunately there are only losers’
“Disappointed” and “disillusioned” appeared after the strike decision of Upper Austria’s Infrastructure Councilor Günther Steinkellner (FPÖ) that “no compromise could be reached in the negotiations”. And he apparently addresses both negotiating parties: “Since no agreement could be reached, unfortunately there will only be losers. Many people in our country depend on the mobility options of public transport. It is extremely unfortunate that a serious image damage has been done here. is accepted.”
