Kicked and spat on officials: A Hungarian prisoner (49) faced the Innsbruck court again after a vortex in Innsbruck prison. A fire had broken out in his cell, but there was no evidence of arson.
The prisoner, now charged again, is not an easy guy – and the two prison guards followed the petite 49-year-old’s every reaction during the trial. Two years in prison in his home country show that he is not a blank slate.
About the cause itself: On June 17, an argument broke out in a cell where five prisoners were. A prisoner “planted” the Hungarian and briefly took off his watch which was next to the bed. The man thus provoked allegedly set fire to several paper drawings. The mattress also started to smoke – a dangerous situation in the small room!
A fellow inmate pressed the emergency button and when officers appeared at the door, the 49-year-old greeted them with aggressive screams. A commotion ensued and the Hungarian was knocked down by the officers, but according to their unanimous statements, he writhed and kicked with all his might. The cell was full of smoke, but luckily the fire was out.
Prisoner spat on officials
“We then took the man to a specially secured cell. I also checked his mouth there because he hides razor blades there, as an incident a month earlier showed,” said an officer. He was then spat on by the Hungarian.
The fellow prisoners proved of little use as witnesses and some stated that they were asleep at the time. The person who started the fire therefore remained unclear and unpunished in the verdict. The officials and one prisoner described the resistance in unison. The Hungarian must go to jail for another 18 months. He called, announced a hunger strike and complained: “Corruption!”
