The owner had only placed a thin blanket over the container in which an abandoned cat was locked up in Lower Austria. Fortunately, the young velvet paw was found alive.
A thin blue blanket over a yellow transport box and a pitiful meow: a passerby found this sad scene on Freiherr-von-Smola-Straße in Groß-Enzersdorf in the Gänserndorf district. Thank goodness the finder recognized the emergency immediately. The captive young cat was completely at the mercy of the cold. That is why the experienced rescuers of animal shelter Dechanthof in the Mistelbach district were contacted.
Frozen prison
“Elisabetta”, as the brave and extremely reliable Velvetpaw was christened, was very lucky to be discovered in time. “The blanket was only able to protect the young cat against the cold to a limited extent, because the cat had no heating pad in the transport vehicle,” the hard-working animal rights activists report. A night in the freezing prison could have had serious consequences, because the animal shelter had to learn it the hard way: “We once found a cat that was already so severely hypothermic that she never recovered.”
Godfather wanted
The Dechanthof is now looking for a sponsor for the four-legged friend who would like to help ease the financial burden. For the examinations and further care up to a placement, the helpers again have a lot to process. Especially since “Elisabetta” is by no means the only cat to care for. On the contrary: 170 are currently housed there. “Even small amounts add up,” the animal rights activists know.
