Almost 90 percent of respondents in Austria have a “very good” or “reasonably good” image of the independence of the courts and judges and judges. This stems from the EU Justice Barometer, which was published on Tuesday. Austria comes in second place behind Finland.
Denmark, Luxembourg and Sweden are also in front. On the other hand, trust in an independent judiciary in Poland, Croatia and Bulgaria with values between 20 and 30 percent is extremely low.
In Austria the judiciary works relatively efficiently, the EU committee said. During the duration of the procedure in the first instance civil, commercial and other procedures, Austria is one of the five fastest countries in the EU- although the second most cases occur in terms of the number of residents. The administrative courts need relatively longer and the criminal procedures are also excluded here.
The decision is long
The quota showed that the cases were being processed, but at the end of 2023 almost six cases per 100 inhabitants were still waiting for a decision.
“The Austrian judiciary works, is effective and benefits the people in this country every day. I am happy with the unchanged high trust of people in the local judiciary,” said Minister of Justice Anna Sporrer (Spö) in a broadcast.
