An East Tyrolean hunter managed to capture extremely rare photos of a European wildcat. This is only the second proof in the state of Tyrol.
The photos of the East Tyrolean hunter are the first photographic evidence from Tyrol. It is considered a wild biological sensation and has now been confirmed by experts.
For a long time it was thought that the European wildcat (Felis silvestris) was extinct in Tyrol. The hunter observed the animal in the municipality of St. Johann im Walde. It was only after some time that he realized the importance of these pictures. He then sent them to the Tyrolean Hunting Association for evaluation.
The first evidence was in 2013
Incidentally, the first evidence of feral cats from Tyrol came in 2013 from See in Paznaun. At that time, a hunter found hair from a European wildcat and had it analyzed.
