This is the purest Advent miracle! A worker fell 23 meters deep into a well in St. Marien in Upper Austria and was rescued alive.
De Pool (64), together with his 48-year-old colleague and the 40-year-old farmer, was installing work on the well of a house in St. Marien. He was about five feet below the surface of the earth in the well shaft. He wore a climbing harness and was attached to a forklift truck with a shackle, carabiner and ratchet strap. The fork was mounted on the back of a tractor parked next to the pit.
Fastening on the belt came loose
Suddenly the safety of the hip belt came loose and the Pole fell 23 meters to the bottom of the pit. He could rest his legs on the wall of the fountain and slow down his fall. The fuse had previously been attached by himself. The 64-year-old was removed from the pit by the fire brigade with a winch.
Helicopter flown to hospital
After emergency medical care, he was flown by emergency helicopter to Kepler University Hospital with injuries of undetermined extent.
