Kutxabank’s board of directors today unanimously appointed Anton Arriola as chairman of the entity, replacing Gregorio Villalabeitia.
Gregorio Villalabeitia has been in charge since late 2014, when he took over from Mario Fernández, who had been in charge of the bank for six years.
After thanking the directors for their trust, he stressed that he relies on the “capacity” and “dedication” of the entire team to ensure that Kutxabank has a bright future, “above the difficulties of the current geopolitical situation”. He has also emphasized his commitment to establishing the bank’s roots in the Basque Country.
Anton Arriola (Durango, 1967) holds a degree in economics and business from the University of Deusto and an MBA from Luigi Bocconi University, and has had a remarkable career in finance. In this sense, he has held senior positions at Goldman Sachs and other companies, and has built his career in cities such as Milan, New York and London.
In 2019, he became a member of the BBK Supervisory Board, although he has not had a public profile.
Likewise, he is known to have published six books, the last one based on the assassination by ETA of José María Ryan, chief engineer of the Lemoiz Nuclear Power Plant.
