An embassy employee was injured in a letter bomb explosion at the Ukrainian embassy in the Spanish capital Madrid. The National Police confirmed similar media reports. Nothing is known about the background of the alleged terrorist attack. According to the police, an anti-explosive unit and two dog handlers are present.
She was alerted by the embassy around 1:15 p.m., police said. Anti-terrorism protocol was activated and the area around the embassy building in Madrid’s Piovera neighborhood in the northeast of the capital was cordoned off.
The man who opened the letter on Wednesday afternoon was only slightly injured, the media report, citing Spain’s national police. Nevertheless, he went to the hospital as a precaution.
