At the suggestion of Burgenland’s head Hans Peter Doskozil, the highest judges recently asked a question that has been looming in the hearing room of the Constitutional Court (VfGH) for decades: what should ‘side letters’ and ‘friendship circles’ of politicians do? with the independence of the ORF? The question was meant to be rhetorical. And so the Constitutional Court declared the appointment of the foundation and the public council “unconstitutional”. The ORF is under too strong political influence. A new law must come into force by March 2025.
