They have actually been banned for a long time, but in Freistadt in Upper Austria, a cat injured by a click fall has now been taken to the animal shelter. The anger is great, but the fighters of Freistadt protest their innocence.
In some hearts it is cold and dark, cruel and unfeeling. “How low must a person sink to be able to do something like this to defenseless animals”, Karin Binder of Freistadt animal shelter expresses her heart in an angry post on Facebook. A woman found a badly injured cat in a field towards St. Peter on Tuesday. The velvet paw crouched completely apathetic, hypothermic and drenched in the middle of the field, unable to stand or walk. “We took her to Dr. Jan to the small animal practice. There we could really see how serious her injuries were and we cried. Even our vet was speechless,” says Binder.
Animal Rescuer: Cat must have been caught in a snap trap
The front legs had an open fracture, were “flat as a pancake”. The entire leg was torn at the top of the shoulder area. The animal rescuer: “The cat must have fallen into a snap trap – otherwise you can’t explain such an injury. The bones were shattered and splintered.” But Binder also suspects that the hunters are not to blame: “Maybe someone in the neighborhood is bothered by a marten or an otter.”
Hunter: No traps are used
Freistadt hunting manager Andreas Teufer categorically excludes the use of such traps in the city area. Freistadt district master hunter Franz Auinger also says: “If I find out that one of my hunters has illegally killed a cat, then there will be war.”
