Thousands of spectators – Colorful Halloween parade for dogs in New York

Dressed as a pizza slice, pumpkin or even bat, hundreds of four-legged friends celebrated Halloween with their owners in the New York metropolis.

In a parade in the “Big Apple”, participants marched through the East Village in the Manhattan borough in fantastic weather in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators.

Parade for the 34th time
Every year the animal spectacle is one of the most popular Halloween rituals in the metropolis on the American east coast. The so-called “Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade” took place for the 34th time this year.

The origins of the popular parade go back to a time when dog owners started a demonstration to fight for their own dog zone in a park.

City leaders at the time eventually relented and had a separate area created for dog walking. The only condition was that the animal owners had to take care of the maintenance themselves.

Through prominent sponsors and donations from visitors, the unique event now raises money for liability insurance for the event itself and also for the annual maintenance of the park.

Ten days after the colorful Halloween parade of four-legged friends, the actual Halloween takes place, which is also extensively celebrated in New York.
