The Ukrainian consulate in Brno, Czech Republic, has been cordoned off by police over suspicious mail. The program is similar in type to the most recent letter bomb finds in Spain and is now being examined with an X-ray machine, a police spokesman said via Twitter on Friday. The employees of the consulate were therefore brought to safety. The area and a neighboring kindergarten were also evacuated.
The Czech police called on employees of all consulates and embassies and arms companies in the NATO and EU member states to exercise extreme caution when handling mail. If in doubt, call the emergency services. The liberal-conservative government in Prague led by Prime Minister Petr Fiala is one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters in its fight against the Russian invaders.
Spain: shipments of explosives to embassies and prime ministers
In Spain, shipments of explosives have been sent in recent days to the Ukrainian and US embassies in Madrid and to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The media, citing police circles, reported on Friday that the home-made explosives contained only small amounts of pyrotechnic material. A connection with Spain’s aid to Ukraine cannot be ruled out.
