A team from Fiaker moved through Vienna’s Stephansplatz on Saturday afternoon, which had serious consequences for humans and animals. Two passersby – a 58-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man – fell while trying to get out of the danger zone, injuring the woman. Four horses were also slightly injured.
The incident took place at or after 11:30 am in the city center, the national police reported on Sunday. A Fiaker driver tore part of the harness, making his vehicle suddenly uncontrollable as he drove from Zedlitzgasse towards Stephansplatz. “He was just a passenger,” police spokesman Markus Dittrich told APA.
At Stephansplatz, the Fiaker crashed into a parked carriage, whereupon the horses harnessed there frightened the team. These horses would have run without a leader.
Brave passer-by stops horses
The Fiacre crashed into a car near the intersection with Rotenturmstrasse.
The horses of the 49-year-old Fiaker driver were slightly injured, as were the two animals that had run. There was damage to the carriages and the car. The torn armor was fixed.
