More water damage slows down work at the new Oberwart clinic. Three of the seven operating rooms now have to be closed for days. How to go further…
The most modern clinic in Burgenland in Oberwart was put into use two weeks ago. Full operations could even start earlier than expected. Just a few days later, water damage slows down activities. Because water damage occurred in an equipment room opposite the operating rooms, three out of seven operating rooms now have to take an extended break.
A protective wall is erected
It is not possible to operate there on two and five days because a dust-resistant wall needs to be built in this area for renovation, according to Health Burgenland. While protection is in place, operations are now paused until May 26. Surgeries are still being performed in four operating rooms without restrictions – both acute and planned procedures.
Impact manageable
From May 27, all seven rooms of the new Oberwart clinic will be in use again until the dust-resistant wall is dismantled on June 10, after which there will be a short break in three operating rooms. However, the consequences are manageable – although any postponed surgery can be stressful for those affected, which is regrettable according to Health Burgenland.
However, it is impossible to say how many operations in total will have to be postponed. They will try to outsource as much as possible to other clinics or to the open four tables, and these plans are currently being developed in exchange with patients.
Acute care maintained
The cause of the water damage is currently being further investigated by experts and the companies involved; Health Burgenland currently assumes that an external company is to blame; An attachment to a water pipe was probably removed during work and accidentally not replaced. However, Gesundheit Burgenland emphasizes that acute care in the new clinic will be maintained at 100 percent 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Second water damage
This is not the first water damage in the new house, because in March – shortly before the move – there was also a technical problem in the dialysis department of the new clinic. The damage was quickly discovered and we responded immediately to prevent major damage.
The result: Dialysis will take place in the old building until mid-June, because the drying work was extended for safety reasons after the pipe burst. But here too, all patients are well cared for, they say.
