A series of burglaries in the Horn district of Lower Austria, which also killed a farmer. Still, the bizarre theft cannot be blamed on the bad potato harvest. To calm things down, the perpetrators in the old city also stole utensils for growing hemp plants. There were five burglaries in total, the police are investigating. More about the cases and their criminal heyday.
Domestic potatoes are scarce this year due to the poor harvest in the Weinviertel. In the Waldviertel, on the other hand, this year there was plenty of the popular side dish in good quality. In a possibly related series of burglaries in and around Horn between November 29 and December 1, the perpetrators chose this tasty crop as a valuable tuber: they stole 24 bags of five kilos each from a sales stand. The thieves also stole brushwood and a surveillance camera along with the photovoltaic cell and a car battery.
hemp “to calm down”
The thieves made little loot from a sales stall at the EKZ: they managed to get hold of six euros in total. The perpetrators may also want to get into the drug trade. Because the hemp shop in the old town was also broken into – in addition to 30 euros in change, only utensils for growing the tender plants disappeared.

Not far from Horn, in the municipality of Irnfritz-Messern, a construction site container was also looted at the same time – a cable reel, equipment and even the padlock have disappeared. Thieves then drove away from a business site with a trailer full of tools and machinery.
