The former driver, whose son Adrien is also a motorsportsman, suffered from Parkinson’s disease for many years.
Originally from Paris, his Formula 1 career began in 1977 with the Surtees team and he later drove McLaren and Renault cars, among others, as well as Ferrari.
In this last house he got his only two victories in 1982 and 1983. In that last season he finished fourth in the general classification.
