Evidence of torture – Bodies of dead excavated in Kherson

Date:

Prosecutors have been collecting evidence of possible Russian war crimes since the withdrawal of Russian forces from the Kherson region in early November. Authorities have already documented more than 430 cases. The bodies of the dead are exhumed. Of course, Moscow denies the allegations.

In the Kherson region in particular, the prosecutor’s office is now collecting evidence. On Monday, for example, the body of a civilian was exhumed – a teacher who was killed in June. More than 430 war crimes cases in the region are already under investigation.

Allegations of war crimes by Russians
There are signs of torture, beatings, murder and disappearances. Many of the affected relatives want to hold Russia accountable. Moscow has always denied allegations of war crimes and atrocities committed in occupied territories.

According to Kiev, dozens of bodies with traces of torture were found in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson after the withdrawal of Russian troops. According to Ukrainian information, numerous interrogation rooms have also been found, in which brutal interrogations were allegedly carried out.

Numerous testimonials collected
The Kiev government reported in mid-November that eleven places of detention had been found, including four where torture had taken place. A representative of the Kherson prosecutor’s office told the New York Times that testimony had been gathered about 800 arrests by Russian troops in the region.

In the summer, people fleeing Kherson reported torture and illegal arrests during an interview by the human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW).

After the departure of the Russian occupiers, mass graves were also discovered in other areas. And there, too, bodies of civilians were found in some graves that showed signs of torture.
