Fuel became cheaper again in November. The price of a liter of premium petrol fell by eight cents compared to October and cost an average of 1,678 euros. Diesel was on average 13 cents cheaper and recently cost 1,905 euros per litre, according to the ÖAMTC car club.
The ÖAMTC considers the effects of the recently introduced oil embargo against Russia on fuel prices to be limited. Since December 5, Russian oil can no longer be imported into the EU by sea. From 5 February, the regulation also applies to oil products such as petrol and diesel. Major consequences for prices at the pumps are not expected.
According to the ÖAMTC, the restrictions were announced well in advance. In addition, the diesel embargo was already priced in in the summer.
Carbon pricing, on the other hand, will drive up diesel and petrol prices. At the beginning of this year, the price rose from 30 to 32.5 euros per ton. According to the ÖAMTC, diesel should be 0.8 cents more expensive and super and 0.7 cents per litre.

- Check tire pressure – under-inflation causes tires to wear faster and increases fuel consumption.
- Drive ahead and as consistently as possible – this not only saves fuel, but also makes you safer on the road.
- Drive in the highest possible gear and avoid unnecessary shifting.
- Do not carry unnecessary loads or roof constructions.
- Accelerate only as long as necessary.
- Use the engine braking effect.
