It was an incredible scene that took place on Sunday afternoon in Höfen in the Ausserfern region of Tyrol: a small plane crashed into the roof of a family home. The occupants – a German couple – suffered serious injuries. Fortunately, there was no one in the house at the time. It is still unclear how the accident could have happened. The investigation is running smoothly.
At about 3:15 p.m., the single-engine Cessna crashed into the house near the local airport. The small plane hit like a bomb. Parts of the Cessna went through the roof. The plane broke apart on impact and then became stuck on the roof. big alert!
Lost a lot of altitude after takeoff
The plane was piloted by a 54-year-old German with his wife (56) on board. According to statements by several eyewitnesses, the plane took off from Höfen airport in a northeasterly direction towards Reutte. After apparently already having problems on the runway, the Cessna lost a lot of height in the air immediately after take-off.
The plane then started to swing and crashed on the roof of the house! The German couple was seriously injured and had to be freed by the fire brigade. The 56-year-old man was flown by emergency helicopter to the Innsbruck clinic, his wife to the hospital in Murnau (Bavaria).
Expert assesses plane wreck
The cause of the crash is still completely unclear. “The plane wreckage remained on the roof overnight. An expert will examine the machine on Monday,” a police officer told Krone in the morning.
Residents were gone
The house was badly damaged by the impact. Fortunately, no one was in the building at the time of the accident, police said. In addition to the police, the fire brigade, rescue and emergency physician and two helicopters were deployed.
