A rare copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is going under the hammer for Christmas. Up to £10,000 is expected for the leather-bound special edition, according to the PA news agency, according to book expert Jim Spencer of the Hansons Library Auction in Staffordshire, England.
The anniversary edition, signed by author Joanne K. Rowling, of which only a few copies were raffled off to mark the publication’s 15th anniversary, was won by nanny Chloe Esslemont in a contest. The letter from the then 16-year-old, in which she described her love for Harry Potter with colorful drawings and many details, convinced the jury.
“Could use the money”
Esslemont treasured the book in her attic in Cumbria for some ten years. “Now it is gathering dust and I can use the money. I am very excited about the auction,” she said, according to the report. The auction will take place on December 16.
