After the fatal knife attack on two schoolgirls in Germany early this morning, in which a 14-year-old died, a temporary suspect committed suicide. The 25-year-old was arrested after the incident, but was released a little later because the suspicion was unfounded. Why the man from Eritrea took his own life is now being investigated.
The attack on the teenagers (13 and 14 years old) took place on Monday around 07:30 on their way to school in Illerkirchberg near Ulm. The girls were taken to hospital with stab wounds, where the 14-year-old eventually died. The police then arrested several suspects who were housed in a refugee reception center. While a 27-year-old Eritrean is still suspected of being in a prison hospital, a 25-year-old compatriot was released on Monday evening because the suspicion against him was unfounded.
Suicide at the same time as the victim’s funeral
On Wednesday, the 25-year-old finally ended his life at Send station. He had jumped onto the rails just before a freight train pulled into the station. Despite driving slowly in the station area, the driver was unable to stop the vehicle in time, the “Augsburger Allgemeine” reports. Around the same time, the dead girl’s funeral took place.
Meanwhile, the surviving victim was able to tell the police what happened in the attack. The attacker allegedly hit the teen first. He then grabbed a knife and stabbed his friends. The 27-year-old suspect was also injured, but was able to flee to his accommodation. The 25-year-old was present when police arrived. The injured man eventually had to undergo surgery. The suspected murder weapon was found on him, according to police. According to “Bild”, he would not have commented on the attack until now.
