Austrian singer-songwriter Schiffkowitz has been in hospital for about a month. First he had to be treated for pneumonia, after all, the 75-year-old contracted Covid-19.
This was revealed by his old STS colleague Gert Steinbäcker on Thursday evening during his solo concert in the Stadthalle Graz. Schiffkowitz, whose real name is Helmut Röhrling, would have loved to “be there for one or two songs” if he wasn’t in the hospital. First he had to be treated there for pneumonia, ‘after all, that’s where he ripped open Corona’, says Steinbäcker. On that occasion, he immediately asked the public to send a “get well soon”.
Steinbäcker’s last tour
Steinbäcker is the first S of STS and announced the current tour as his last. “It took us long enough to go on tour for weeks. That’s over now, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be musically active anymore,” he said beforehand. He will be seen and heard on stage again in the future.
The abbreviation STS stands for Steinbäcker, Timischl and Schiffkowitz. The three musicians from Styria founded the trio in 1978 and eventually broke up their successful pop-rock band in 2014.
