Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Odessa is currently out of order due to the latest Russian attacks on the region’s energy system, according to the Kiev government. However, grain traders are not expected to stop exporting because of this, said Agriculture Minister Mykola Solski.
Two other ports – Chornomorsk and Pivdennyy – authorized to export Ukrainian grain under the Russia-Ukraine agreement are partially operational. “The port of Chornomorsk is now about 80 percent full,” Solski told Reuters in a telephone conversation.
No interruption of deliveries
The port of Odessa is not operational because the power generators have not yet been turned on. Grain traders continued to ship grain through the other two ports, Solski said.
“There are problems, but none of the dealers speak of an interruption in deliveries. The ports use alternative energy sources.” Ukraine is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of maize and wheat, but exports have fallen significantly due to the Russian invasion.
