“It was a shock to all of us, our chief mechanic even started crying,” says Sebastian Schönberger. The year ended with a real bang for the cycling hero from Innviertel, when his French team “B2B-Hotels-KTM” broke up without major warning due to a lack of sponsors.
“It’s amazing what was done to us,” the 28-year-old grumbles about the management’s behavior. Lucky in disguise: Schönberger will probably be accommodated with another team in the coming days.
Shot by car and dog
All of that somehow fits into this year, which was marked by many ups and downs. Due to a so-called runner’s knee, Schönberger started the season with a training deficit before he was shot first by a dog and then by a car in March and had to stand still for several weeks. “But then it went steeply uphill,” emphasizes Schönberger, who followed the first participation in the Tour de France, the World Cup in Australia and the marriage with his Jana at the end of October.
