In Iran, a second demonstrator who had been involved in systemic protests was executed on Monday. Charged with “waging war against God”, Majid-Reza R. was publicly hanged in the northeastern city of Mashhad, state news agency IRNA reported.
The man allegedly killed two members of the infamous paramilitary Basij militia with a knife during protests in November. The court had accused him of “waging war against God” and sentenced him to death in accordance with Islamic legal opinion.
Two dozen protesters on death list
The rap musician Mohsen S. was executed on Thursday. He is said to have attacked another Basij member with a gun, spread terror and blocked a road. His execution was strongly condemned at home and abroad. According to media reports, at least 25 protesters are on the death list of the Iranian judiciary.
Since a young woman died in police custody in Iran in mid-September, protests in the Islamic Republic have not stopped.
