77,000 euros in damage – illegal dealer (42) diligently collects social assistance money

Date:

The Tyrolean special unit for social security fraud has once again brought to light a blatant case: a 42-year-old Iraqi, who earned several thousand euros a month through illegal trade, is alleged to have wrongfully drawn a minimum income, causing damage amounting to tens of thousands of euros.

Since October 2020, the man receives a minimum income for himself and his family by pretending to be destitute or needy. What the competent authority did not know was that the suspect was apparently very large in terms of illegal trade and was making several thousand euros a month.

Tons of goods shipped to Iraq
Specifically, the suspect acted as an international intermediary by purchasing various goods, especially leftover stocks, on pallets across Europe for an Iraq-based dealer and organizing the shipment of goods to Iraq by truck and ship,” the investigators say. According to the data, more than 22 tons of goods have been shipped to Iraq so far.

Goods worth several million euros
The approach of the alleged scammer: he contacted wholesalers via the Internet, posing as a representative of traders in Iraq and bought large quantities of goods of all kinds, such as electrical appliances, shoes, clothes, watches, medical equipment and silver worth of several million euros. He allegedly then collected commissions for the settlement of these transactions, which he hid from the Innsbruck district authority.

Now the case has exploded. The wrongfully collected social benefits caused a total loss of 77,000 euros. Further investigations are underway. Appropriate advertisements will follow.
