The Belgian Public Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that a total of 20 house searches have taken place, 19 of which were in private homes and offices, to which was added this afternoon in the premises of the European Parliament.

Belgian police raided the headquarters of the European Parliament (EP) in Brussels on Monday afternoon to seize data needed to investigate an alleged case of corruption and money laundering by employees of this institution linked to Qatar.
“Since Friday, with the support of the security services of the European Parliament, the computer resources of ten parliamentary assistants to prevent data necessary for the investigation from disappearing. The registration today in the European Parliament was intended to collect this data,” the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The announcement by the prosecution coincided precisely with the celebration of a debate in the plenary session of the institution, which is meeting this week in the French city of Strasbourg – the institution’s official seat – on the case of alleged corruption, money laundering money and criminal organization revealed last Friday by the Belgian judicial authorities, which they had researched it for five months.
In its statement, the Belgian Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a total of 20 house searches had taken place since that day, 19 of which were in private homes and offices, and a further one this afternoon in the premises of the European Parliament.
In it, “several hundreds of thousands of euros” have been seized, in particular 600,000 euros at one of the suspects’ home “several hundreds of thousands of euros in a suitcase in a hotel room in Brussels” and “some €150,000 in the apartment of an MEP,” said the prosecutor’s office.
Although the Public Prosecution Service has not provided the details, the Eurochamber Vice President is known to be accused Eve Kaliof the Greek socialist party PASOK, as well as the former MEP Antonio Panzeriwho currently runs the NGO Fight Impunity and whose wife and daughter were arrested Friday in Italy in connection with the case.
The Belgian prosecutor’s office has also confirmed that a house search was carried out this weekend at the home of a Belgian MEP in the presence of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. It would be the socialist MEP Mark Tarabellaaccording to the Belgian press.
