Group of 7 Belgians – Overrated! Helicopter had to fly out walkers

Date:

A group of Belgian hikers can expect a hefty bill! The reason: After a night in a cabin in the Vorarlberg Rhätikon, the group of seven no longer dared to descend into the valley alone and had to be flown away with the police helicopter “Libelle”.

The seven Belgians – four adults and three children aged eight, nine and eleven – traveled for three days from the Totalphütte over the 2964 meter high Schesaplana to the Mannheimer Hütte and spent the night there.

Fear of steepness and old snow
When it came to continuing the walk or returning to the valley on Saturday morning, the steepness and old snow made people who lived in the lowlands lose heart. Hüttenwirt Matthias Schatz then alerted the emergency services.

Implementation can be expensive
The Belgian group of people was then flown unharmed to Brand with the police helicopter “Libelle”. “Due to inadequate travel preparation, a settlement of the use will be proposed,” said the police. That would certainly be expensive “fun”…
