Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects further Russian attacks on his country’s power supply. He called on the population to take air raid alarms seriously in order to be prepared for any eventuality. “And we’re going to do everything we can to get through this winter.”
“After every Russian attack, we restore the system as far as possible,” Zelenskyy said in his daily video address Monday night. Every effort is being made to bring new equipment into the country to repair the damage. Nevertheless, it should be borne in mind that Russia has not abandoned its “terrorist tactics”.
Russians fire on targets east and south
According to the Ukrainian military leadership, Russian forces are heavily firing on targets in eastern and southern Ukraine with rockets, artillery and drones. Ukrainian military and civilian officials also said Russian artillery shelled nearly 20 settlements around the devastated eastern city of Bakhmut and the southern city of Kherson during the recent fighting.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, fighting is still fierce around Bakhmut and Avdiivka in the Donbass in eastern Ukraine. Several advances by Russian troops had been repelled there, the Ukrainian General Staff announced in Kiev on Monday evening. Several Russian multiple rocket launcher attacks were reported from Kherson in southern Ukraine. There were deaths and injuries, it said.
According to estimates by Ukrainian military intelligence, Russia still has an arsenal of about 360 cruise missiles. That is enough for at least five waves of attacks, spokesman Vadim Skibizkyj said.
Pushilin: Russia controls more than half of the Donetsk region
More than half of the self-proclaimed “People’s Republic” is under Russian control, according to the Moscow-installed administrator in the Russian-occupied Donetsk region. “Just over 50 percent of the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic was liberated,” Denis Pushilin told the Russian state news agency RIA.
However, the situation in the area along the Lyman front line remains very difficult. Due to the heavy fighting in the region in recent weeks, it is not clear which parts of the Donetsk region are under Russian and which are under Ukrainian control.
