“Your name is on a list of possible victims of a robbery” – with this trick, a fake police officer so upset an elderly person in Graz on the phone on Tuesday that the 86-year-old handed all her valuables to an accomplice at the front door. The damage is in the five-digit euro range.
At around 4:30 pm, an 86-year-old woman from Graz filed a report with the Andritz police station, apparently handing over all her cash and gold bars in the five-digit euro range to the wrong police officer. The unknown perpetrator stated on the phone that a robbery had been committed near the woman. One of the perpetrators has been arrested.
The suspect had a note with him that also included the address of the 86-year-old – as a potential victim of the robbery.
valuables disappeared
“Just to be sure, I’d like to check the contents of your safe,” the “police officer” explained. That apparently did not happen, because the completely insecure older woman handed over all her valuables to an unknown man at the front door.
Unfortunately, the description of the person is very thin: the crook was wearing a medium-length jacket and was of average stature. The real police again urge caution.
