Terrible accident Wednesday morning on the Inntalautobahn in the Tyrolean Unterland: A 21-year-old resident may have overlooked the end of a traffic jam and – despite evasive maneuvers – crashed into a stationary truck with full force. car was literally shredded and the roof ripped off. The driver survived with serious injuries.

First of all: a passenger would probably have paid for the devastating accident with his life. What happened? The accident happened shortly after 8:30 am on the A12 near Langkampfen (Kufstein district). A 43-year-old Romanian was driving his truck in the first lane towards Germany when he had to stop at the Kufstein-Süd exit due to traffic congestion.

The next 21-year-old Austrian may have overlooked this. The driver of the car tried to swerve to the left – but was unable to avoid a rear-end collision. The car then collided with full force against the trailer. The car was literally torn to pieces by the violent impact on the passenger side. Even the roof was ripped off.

The driver of the accident responded
When the alerted rescuers arrived, the young driver reacted quickly. He received first aid and was then taken to the hospital in Kufstein. “The truck driver was not injured. The car was a total loss, the trailer was only damaged in the underride protection area,” the investigators continue.

Kilometers behind due to accident
Near the accident site, the A12 was completely closed to heavy traffic for about an hour and to car traffic for about 45 minutes. This led to a significant backlog as far as Wörgl West.
