Multiple tornadoes in the United States have killed at least two people and caused extensive property damage. The bodies of a little boy and his mother were found not far from their destroyed home in the small community of Keithville in the southern state of Louisiana, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday night.
Other possible victims of the winter storms are being sought. However, no one has been reported missing, police said.
“Biggest damage in 17 years”
A hurricane also destroyed or damaged several homes in the village of Farmerville, also in Louisiana, local authorities reported. At least 20 residents were injured, some seriously. “This is the worst damage I’ve seen in 17 years,” a police spokesman told CNN.
Photos and videos showed collapsed buildings and toppled power poles. In the neighboring state of Texas (video above), the weather service counted at least five tornadoes. Police said seven people were injured in the Dallas area and further north. In one instance, the high wind overturned a car.
Severe weather warning for winter storms
There were also severe weather warnings for winter storms in several states. The weather service announced that more than a meter of snow has fallen in the states of Nevada and Idaho. Several roads in South Dakota had to be closed due to ice and snow. “This storm is not to be trifled with,” the regional transport ministry warned.
