Crisis? Which crises? The war in Ukraine, the consequences of the pandemic, high inflation and the problems of the climate crisis: the crises seem to be piling up at the moment. How we get through the multi-crisis together”, medical ethicist Alena Buyx looks at societal challenges and solutions from an ethical perspective during the first OeAW Christmas Lecture in the ballroom of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Alena Buyx has been director of the Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine since 2018 and professor of Ethics in Medicine and Health Technologies at the Technical University of Munich. Buyx has been chairman of the German Ethics Council since 2020. In this position, the expert advised the German federal government on crisis management during the pandemic and increasingly addressed the public. In 2021 she received the National Prize of the German National Foundation for her efforts.
