Much evidence went up in flames Tuesday afternoon in a major fire at a New York City Police Department warehouse. Firefighters had great difficulty getting the fire under control. Eight people were injured during the firefighting.
The fire brigade also fought the fire in the Brooklyn district with fire boats from outside, several emergency services and two civilians suffered minor injuries. More than 130 firefighters attended and smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles.
The New York harbor warehouse contained a large amount of evidence, some from criminal cases dating back 20 to 30 years. E-bikes and other vehicles were also parked in the building. It could take days for the fire to finally be extinguished, they say.
The extent of the damage and how much evidence was destroyed is still unclear. The cause of the devastating fire is under investigation.
