Vortex in Traun in Upper Austria! The city announced on Wednesday by the federal government that 100 refugees will be housed in new asylum accommodations in December. The mayor and city council are against the construction, but cannot prevent it.
The mayor of Traun, Karl-Heinz Koll (ÖVP), was informed in writing on Wednesday about the establishment of asylum centers in the city of Traun. It was announced that from December 100 people seeking protection will be housed in Traun indefinitely. The city of Traun has no legal remedies against her and, despite a resolution, unfortunately faces a fait accompli. The mayor and city council are against the construction of the asylum seekers’ center under the current circumstances, but cannot prevent it.
Relevant information is missing
The mayor regrets that all relevant information is currently missing. Unfortunately, the federal government is not referring to the demands and concerns. “I would like to see better communication and cooperation between the federal government and the municipalities,” says Mayor Koll. “Yesterday, after receiving the letter, I immediately notified the city council and the district governor,” the mayor continued.
A round table is convened
“I assure you that I will do everything I can to preserve our infrastructure for our citizens,” Koll said. In addition, the city will hold a round table as soon as possible to coordinate and quickly implement measures (e.g. increasing security) in cooperation with the Linz-Land district administration, the mayor of the city of Linz, the district police command, the Red Cross and all the blue light organizations gathered.
“In addition, I will continue to do my utmost to ensure that we are supported by the federal government so that we can continue to guarantee safety in our city. We are currently also investigating the possibility of an extra security service, because safety must come first,” concludes the mayor of Traun.
