Violent allegations of abuse against the director of a music school in the Weinviertel in Lower Austria came out on Thursday: threats, intimidation, sexual harassment. The suspect has since been placed on leave.
As one former teacher reported to the ORF, the school principal made statements such as “Next time I hire female colleagues, they should be sterilized beforehand”. But that’s not all, a teacher even reports assaults: the suspect is said to have touched women on the hip and repeatedly “kissed on the mouth”.
Threat of “destruction” of career
The fact that the allegations have only just been made seems to have something to do with a climate of intimidation and fear that prevailed at the school. A teacher reports threats of dismissal and the “destruction of careers”.
Several municipalities are responsible for the music school. Only the mayors could have fired the suspected director. Despite repeated information from the local bosses, this never happened. However, the alleged perpetrator had to say goodbye on Wednesday after state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) found out about the allegations.
Mikl-Leitner: “We will not tolerate such behavior”
According to ORF, Mikl-Leitner said she had no knowledge of the allegations — she only found out on Tuesday night and immediately spoke to the president of the community association. “These are serious allegations and I expect 100 percent clarification,” said Mikl-Leitner. “As a governor and mother of two daughters, I can say very clearly that we will not tolerate such behavior in our country.”
