Chemical weapons ampoules – Ukraine: sarin remains discovered in settlement

Date:

According to the mayor of the city of Trostianets in the northern Ukrainian region of Sumy, Russian troops have left chemical weapons residues in the city of Bilka. “We have found remains of chemical weapons, sarin and other substances in the village of Bilka. We have discovered ampoules,” Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform quoted Yuriy Bova as saying.

The substances were found in Bilka after the Russian army left the settlement. “Ukraine’s security service is currently working on it. It is possible that the occupiers wanted to use this chemical to attack Kiev, Poltava or other cities,” Bova said live on Ukrainian radio on Saturday. The information cannot be independently verified for the time being.

Toxic substance dropped on Mariupol?
During a month-long stay in Trostianets, Russian occupiers set up many booby traps and mined many cemeteries, forests, parks and administrative buildings, Bowa said. On April 11, fighters from the Azov regiment said Russian invaders dropped a toxic substance of unknown origin from a drone on Mariupol. Three people were injured and had stopped breathing.

The secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons expressed concern about reports of the use of chemical weapons in Mariupol and the shelling of chemical plants in Ukraine, Ukrinform said.

“The whole world, all countries should be concerned”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned about Russia’s use of atomic bombs: “Not just me — the whole world, all countries should be concerned because it can’t be real information, but it can be the truth.” Zelenskyy responded to statements by CIA chief Bill Burns. Given Russia’s military setbacks in Ukraine, the head of US foreign intelligence had emphasized that the potential threat posed by Russia’s use of tactical nuclear bombs should not be taken lightly.

Tactical or battlefield nuclear weapons are nuclear weapons whose action radius and explosive power are significantly smaller than strategic nuclear weapons that can be used outside a continent.

“Don’t be afraid, just be ready”
In the interview fragment published on Saturday by the American broadcaster CNN, Zelenskyy said in English that human lives in Russia are worth nothing. With regard to chemical weapons, however, it is now important not to be afraid, but instead be ready: “But that is not a question for Ukraine, not only for Ukraine, but for the whole world, I think.” The interview was scheduled for Sunday.

Concerns in the West about Moscow’s possible nuclear weapons plans increased after Putin ordered Russian deterrent weapons to be installed at the start of the war in Ukraine. Among these weapons, Russia counts its atomic bombs.
